It is funny how latent and talent are anagrams. Science and literature enjoy a quiescent relationship in our lives. History cites countless examples of the blending of these two disciplines . H. G. Wells' view of the society through the eyes of The Invisible Man, Tagore letting loose a relativity reference in শেষের কবিতা (The Last Poem), George Orwell's then-futuristic-now-relevant drama 1984 are a few noteworthy mentions where the epitomes of one field embraced the other to drive home social messages for the betterment of humanity. Yet, given the potential that remains trapped in the unused synaptic junctions, the union of Science and Literature has a long journey ahead.
Research Fellows Association (RFA) of Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics (SINP) is launching a new magazine with one simple motto : Explore, Expand, Engage.
Through this magazine we hope to speak, think and question. We are probably lucky to be born in a country which allows for the debate on freedom of speech. It is thus our responsibility as the intelligentsia to contribute to this culture. We thus encourage you to dive deep into yourselves and seek out the not-so-logical emotions that drive both science and humanity. We want you to look beyond yourselves and get lost in the unknown world of others for in empathy lies the soul of knowledge. We want cultures and languages to collide. We want to break free from any convention that a magazine is supposed to have. In these collisions, we will only lose the barriers. But through the impact, we dream of union; a union of ideas!
The first issue of your magazine, though plays a satirical joke on the previous paragraph. We have restricted the authorship only to research fellows of SINP. Yet, the response has been overwhelming, given the fact that the magazine has been launched at a very short notice. True to our aim, the magazine, through its modest footsteps has already broken the language barrier! In the next issue, we welcome inputs from everyone. By this we mean Everyone!
Wherever you work, whatever you do, whomever you are, we welcome you!
We would also like to add a few notes for those who would carry the magazine forward. The aim, at present, is to publish a new issue every three months. We do understand the responsibility we have signed up for. The Editorial Board will have new faces in the coming months. Morning necessarily shows the day at SINP. The response to this magazine promises a new day. We hope You, as the blood of SINP will build on the start and ensure that it reaches the heights it is supposed to.
